Amazing Stage Fabrics in Motion
Architecture Reimagined at the Royal Academy of Arts in London confers a new perspective on architecture. It invites architects from around the world to create site-specific installations using structures, textures, scents, lighting and colour. ShowTex's fabrics are used to transform two of the Curatorial exhibition spaces: the Film Room and the Central Hall designed by SHSH/ Shizuka Hariu & Shin Hagiwara Architecture + Scenography.
In the Central Hall, the first room and heart of the exhibition, two layers of semi-transparent Voile CS hang at a certain distance from the walls, creating a sensuous atmosphere and veiling the neoclassical Architecture of the building.
The fabric also works as a projection surface for changing quotes from the architects and curator. SHSH designed and chose ShowTex's clean laser-cut to make different openings in the Voile, to either create windows onto wall text or doorways to the adjoining rooms, revealing different parts of the installations beyond.
The Film Room is equipped with a ShowTex Supermat Projection Screen, mounted in a frame, and a translucent curved partition wall of white Voile CS.
With this experimental show, curator Kate Goodwin proves there’s definitely more to architecture than blueprints, detailed models and safety rules.
