With only 4 weeks to go before the annual school celebration, ShowTex accepted the challenge to replace all 20 year old drapes of this Hong Kong school theatre, even though the back of house curtain and the mid curtain had to be custom dyed in a dusty grey and golden colour. ShowTex decided to use the cost-effective Velours Hamlet for these curtains, as it can be dyed on request relatively fast. Although it’s a budget stage velvet, Hamlet looks great with lush pleating!

For the front house curtain, ShowTex chose a heavier velvet in theatre red. This cotton stage velvet has an upright pile and dense weave, which guarantees very deep and rich colours, adding a luxurious touch to the venue.

The existing window covers of the school were severely deteriorated by UV light, so new curtains were needed in a vibrant red material that blocks the sunlight while being very resistant to UV light. ShowTex used Blackout Double, which drapes beautifully and has a very soft, red shine to it. It has excellent light-blocking capacities and this synthetic material is inherently flame retardant and less prone to shrinking in humid conditions.

Challenge succeeded!
