Go GREEN, Latest News

ShowTex offers a variety of sustainable products, all grouped together under its very own “ECO by ShowTex” label. Green practices however vary widely and the differences in terminology may not always be very clear.

In order to qualify for the “ECO by ShowTex” label, our fabrics must comply with green standards in at least one of the following categories: recycled fibers // Oeko-Tex certified // cradle-to-cradle design.

The overview below will clarify these parameters, used to define the sustainability of our products.

LOOP FABRICS & RECYCLING PROGRAMMES

To recycle means to process used materials (waste) into new, useful products to limit the use of raw materials.

That’s why ShowTex developed its in-house ‘Loop label’, assigned to all fabrics composed of at least 20% recycled fibers. Since fire-rated fabrics entirely made of recycled yarns are very rare, the ShowTex Loop range represents a significant step forward towards a more sustainable future in the entertainment and event industry.

And it doesn’t stop there. Not only is the selection of Loop fabrics composed of recycled materials, after the show or event we also encourage our clients to reuse or recycle their products when end-of-life. We even started our own recycling programme for fabric waste from the ShowTex workshops.

OEKO-TEX CERTIFIED

Oeko-Tex is an international association of independent research and testing institutes focused on enhancing both product safety and sustainable production in the textile industry. Fabrics that are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, are tested at all stages of the manufacturing process and found 100% free from harmful substances known to be bad to human health. Textiles can only be certified if all components meet the specified requirements.

Given our position as a leading supplier of flame retardant drapery to the theatrical, entertainment and event industry, ShowTex continues to develop safe and environmentally friendly stage fabrics by using Oeko-Tex-certified textiles.

CRADLE-TO-CRADLE CERTIFIED

Cradle to cradle takes the whole lifecycle of an item into account, including sourcing, end-of-life disposal and reuse. Products are perceived as potential resources that re-enter the manufacturing process in endless cycles, continuously providing raw materials for new products.

A Cradle to Cradle certification evaluates the material’s safety for human and environmental health, design for future use cycles, and sustainable manufacturing.

ShowTex offers a selection of flame retardant mohair products that are designed to return to their respective cycles as biological nutrients, once their useful life has come to an end. These products are made from 100% natural fibers, produced in an environmentally friendly way and fully reusable. Cradle-to-cradle products don’t leave any waste, they become nutrients for future generations of products and raw materials.
